Er wordt vaak gezegd dat wijntrends cyclisch zijn en een afspiegeling zijn van het wispelturige beest dat de mode-industrie is. Wijnstijlen en druiven komen en gaan, net zoals fakkels en baarden maar terug blijven komen.
En als er ooit een druif is geweest die de afgelopen eeuw een enorme schommeling in zijn fortuin heeft meegemaakt, dan is het dat wel Cinsault Eens op grote schaal aangeplant, daarna veel verguisd en brutaal gerooid, heeft deze inherent winterharde en vasthoudende druif de afgelopen jaren een welkome mini-renaissance meegemaakt.

Historisch gezien heeft Cinsault een cruciale, maar vaak onderschatte rol gespeeld in de ontwikkeling van verschillende toonaangevende wijnindustrieën. Dit zijn onder meer Frankrijk, Zuid-Afrika, Libanon en, in iets mindere mate, Chili.
Intrinsiek is Cinsault een droogtebestendige druif die extreme temperaturen kan verdragen. In combinatie hiermee is het een robuuste variëteit, grotendeels ziektebestendig in warmere klimaten.
Als je het buitengewone vermogen om overvloedig op te leveren aan de mix toevoegt, wordt de aantrekkingskracht voor wijnbouwers duidelijk - vooral gezien de periode waarin de populariteit een hoogtepunt bereikte.
